- W2973156782 abstract "Veterinarians are constantly challenged by ethical issues at their work places. A survey in November 2018 investigated perception of importance and frequency of veterinary ethical issues in Korea (n=782). Antimicrobial abuse, negligence of sick animals, violation in animal products sanitary standards, inappropriate discounting of veterinary service fee, and not making referral in the purpose of securing self-profit were listed as most frequent ethical issues faced by veterinarians. Unfair criticism, overtreatment, negligence of pain management were also reported as frequent. Female vets reported that they experienced ethical dilemma situations more often and rated their stressfulness higher than male vets. Degree of stressfulness of ethical dilemmas negatively correlated with job satisfaction, in terms of salary, working environment, social recognition, and contribution to society. Only one fifth of the respondents previously participated in veterinary ethics training programs. They showed low to moderate level of self-efficacy in dealing with veterinary ethical issues such as animal abuse prevention, analysing ethical dilemmas and ethical decision making. About 80% of respondents recognized the need of continuing education on veterinary ethics. Most preferred form of education were lectures and academic seminars." @default.
