- W2975530852 abstract "Background With the technology advanced, the short implants are more commonly used and proved to have a relatively reliable curable efficacy nowadays. The potential risk factors related to the loss of short implants, yet the consensus has not been reached Aim/Hypothesis The large sample sized retrospective study, concentrated not only on the patients characteristics and medical procedures, but also the features of implants, aimed to excavate the risk factors of the short dental implants. Material and Methods Between 2014 and 2017, a total of 7001 implants were inserted at Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, Medical School of Nanjing University. Among the all, 1236 short implants were selected after having evaluated according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Have organized the detailed information, seven variables including bone grafting procedure, gender, diameter of the implant, surgery location, surface coating and definitive restorations were taken into consideration. The Chi-square test, Kaplan-Meier test, Logistic regression and multifactorial Cox regression analysis were employed to explore the risk factors. Results The cumulative survival rate (CSR) of short implants was 96.36%, slightly lower than the standard implants (98.16%, P < 0.001). Most of the short implants (84.44%) lost at the early stage, mainly because of the infection. Judging from the results, the male gender, the implants coated by titanium anodizing (TA) and the single crown improved the loss rate of short implants. Comparing the short implants inserted in the maxillary and mandibular posterior area alone, the maxillary molar area was also considered as a risk factor for the prognosis. Conclusion and Clinical Implications The male patients, the TA surface treatment and the single crown were strongly evident to ascribe to the increasing loss rate of short implants. The tooth position, if focused on the posterior area, the maxillary posterior area was regarded as a risk factor." @default.
