- W2977187415 abstract "Abstract Platinum telluride (PtTe2), a new member of metallic noble-transition-metal dichalcogenides, attracts significant attention because of intriguing physical properties and applications in electronics, optoelectronics. However, the formation and regulation of magnetism as an important application for spin electronics have not been realized in PtTe2 monolayer so far. Herein, we report that the magnetism can be realized by doping nitrogen elements or introducing cationic vacancies, in which the magnetic behavior strongly depends on the applied external strain. Density functional theory calculations disclose that the deformation induced by external strain not only makes the magnetic characteristic originating from cationic vacancies disappear suddenly but also leads to a rapid transformation from half-metallicity to metallicity. However, this magnetic mutation dependent of external strain cannot occur in the N-doped PtTe2 monolayer. Our results provide an effective strategy for obtaining and regulating magnetic behavior." @default.
