- W2978088592 abstract "The site of Nanjing Homo erectus and the Locality 1 at Zhoukoudian, Beijing are the important palaeoanthropological sites in China. In recent years, the ages of these two sites have been newly measured by thermal ionization mass spectrometric (TIMS) U-series dating. Their ages were both antedated by over 100ka. The age of Nanjing Homo erectus is possibly 500ka or 580ka and that of Peking Man ranges about 400ka to 650ka or possibly 800ka. The new age frame promotes the researches on the strata and the environments in these two sites. The paper emphasizes the recent progress and difference on the research of chronology and stratigraphy in these two sites, and discusses the uncertainty or multi-results of dating methods and results, along with paleontology and stratigraphic analysis. Although there are some doubts about the study on age and stratum in these two sites, some of which are still difficult to explain clearer in the short term. This paper attempts to put forward some approaches and methods to solve those problems. For example, the research on paleomagnetic stratigraphy of Locality 1 at Zhoukoudian can verify the age by TIMS dating and provide the chronological table of stratigraphic sequence in the lower part of this site. Similarly, the research on the fossil teeth of Nanjing Homo erectus by nondestructive U-series dating also can distinguish and verify the stratum and the age of Homo erectus in these sites." @default.
