Mittels Fragebogen wurden die moglichen Moderatorvariablen erfasst. Im Gegensatz zu vorangegangenen Studien blieb ein leistungsmindernder Stereotype-Threat-Effekt auf die Leseleis tung von Jungen aus. Entgegen der Vermutung konnten keine Moderatorvariablen fur einen Stereotype Threat-Effekt identifiziert werden. Die Ergebnisse weisen darauf hin, dass Stereo type Threat kein einheitliches Konstrukt ist, sondern abhangig von der stigmatisierten Gruppe und der stereotypisierten Fahigkeitsdomane untersucht werden sollte. Summary We investigated whether stereotype threat can explain boys’ underperformance in reading literacy and whether gender identifi cation, domain identifi cation, reading-related self-concept and type of school can be considered as moderator variables. The sample included male students (N = 222) from two types of school in Germany (Gymnasium [grammar school], Realschule [intermediate secondary school]). Students completed reading tasks either under a stereotype threat (explicit, implicit) or no threat condition. The expected moderator variables were assessed by means of self-report questionnaires. In contrast to previous research, stereotype threat did not impair boys’ reading performance. Moreover, no moderating variables could be identified. These results indicate that stereotype threat is a complex phenomenon and probably manifests itself differ ently for various stigmatized groups and under group-specific conditions.
