- W2978256364 abstract "In the context of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Research Classification (ANZSRC) Review, this submission recommends that: 1. Cultural and Creative Industries should be established as a new six-digit code within Field of Research 20 Languages, Communication and Culture; 2. Creative Economy should be established as a new Socio-Economic Objective in the four-digit SEO code 95 Cultural Understanding. Cultural and creative industries research have been a significantly growing field since the 2000s, and is likely to generate significant volumes of research activity over the next ten years. Australian researchers have been at the forefront of its development, and it is estimated that Australia accounts for 11 per cent of publisher research papers in the field from 1997-2012. Australia is also distinct in the strong grounding in arts and humanities fields such as Communication, Media and Cultural Studies. There is considerable evidence of growth in the creative economy, both in Australia and overseas, and of responsiveness to these developments in terms of public policy and academic curricula. All Australian state governments have a strategy to develop the cultural and creative industries, and Federal agencies such as the Bureau of Communication and Arts Research have been active in mapping the development of these sectors. One-quarter of Australian public universities now offer a degree program in cultural and creative industries and/or have a School of Creative Industries. Such growth in cultural and creative industries courses is consistent with international developments, most notably those in the United Kingdom. This submission finds evidence of considerable research productivity in this field. The 2018 ERA saw at least 220 research outputs submitted that were designated to be directly in this field, from 30 universities. This figure almost certainly underestimates the total number of outputs related to the field. It also identifies 76 Australian Research Council grants awarded in this field since 2001, across both the Discovery and Linkage programs. It is noted that while the submission argues for Cultural and Creative Industries being within the four-digit FOR 2002 Cultural Studies, there may also be an argument for FOR 2001 Communication and Media Studies, based on the academic literature in the field." @default.
