Such tasks are generally termed activities of daily living (ADL) tasks. The ADL ability of an individual can be assessed using different approaches. By using self-report methods such as questionnaires or interviews, the insider’s perspective – that is, the individual’s perceived ADL ability, will be assessed. By applying observations, the outsider’s (i.e., the professional’s) perspective will be the basis for assessing the individual’s ADL ability. Both approaches can be used and will provide different information about the individual’s ability. References1 Yerxa E . Health and the human spirit for occupation . Am. J. Occup.
