- W2980346979 abstract "Study Objective Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a common side effect of cancer treatment. No medication has been shown to be effective in the treatment of CIPN. Low temperature plasma (LTP) has proven to be effective tissue regeneration such as acute and chronic wound healing by stimulation of cell proliferation and migration of wound relating skin cells. Here, we investigated therapeutic effect and biological safety of LTAPP on paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy. Design We evaluated antiallodynic and neuro-protective effect of repeated exposing with N2 gas based LTP in a model of chemotherapy-induced neuropathy produced by paclitaxel. We also explored tumor growth effect of N2 gas based LTP in xenograft models of cervical cancer. Setting Pusan National University Hospital, Busan, Korea. Patients or Participants This experiments were performed in a mouse model of paclitaxel-induced neuropathy Interventions Repeated exposing with N2 gas based LTP. Measurements and Main Results LTP treatment protected mice from thermal insensitivity and alleviated mechanical allodynia in paclitaxel-treated mice. The ultrastructure and quantified G-ratio of myelin integrity of sciatic nerve tissues using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques supported the observations in mouse behavioral tests. The mechanistic study on DRG neurons suggested that LTP treatment suppressed neuroinflammation and remodeled the dysregulation of intracellular mitochondria caused by paclitaxel. Importantly, LTP treatment did not showed a stimulation of tumor growth in xenograft models of cervical cancer. Conclusion These results suggest that LTP treatment attenuates paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy by suppressing neuroinflammation pathway and that it the first evidence for the development of safe and effective LTP-based neuroprotective strategy against anticancer drug-evoked painful neuropathy." @default.
