- W2980981508 abstract "Non-adherence to prescribed medications costs the United States $100–$290 billion USD annually. There has been significant research and innovation surrounding the use of various health information technologies to improve adherence. Dermatology is a specialty with high rates of non-adherence. In this chapter, we present and discuss some of the technological advancements in medication adherence that can be utilized in dermatology. We outline various clinical interventional studies within the realms of mobile phone-based technology (text message reminders, telecommunications, smartphone applications), electronic health (web-based education, internet-based surveys, teledermatology), physical technologies/devices, and multimodal approaches. Furthermore, we describe emerging concepts within this domain along with highlighting technologies not yet studied in randomized controlled settings. In this fashion, this chapter is intended to inform the clinician about technological advancements to promote adherence and stimulate discussion of this important matter." @default.
