- W2981019175 abstract "This chapter discusses pharmacological approaches for offenders with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). As in offenders without IDD, disorders found most frequently in violent offenders with IDD are conduct or antisocial personality disorders and psychotic disorders as well as paraphilic disorders in sexual offenders with IDD. In sexual offenders, clinicians should turn to the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry guidelines for the treatment of paraphilic disorders in adults and adolescents, which provide clear recommendations concerning the selection of the most suitable agent. Gathering informed consent is particularly delicate in offenders with IDD due to limited cognitive abilities in some patients. Although it is probably not possible in clinical practice due to time constraints it would be desirable for an offender's cognitive abilities to be assessed by two independent clinicians and to have a third clinician assessing the patient if the first two did not agree." @default.
