- W2981176893 abstract "Dementia of Alzheimer's type is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by problems in performing daily living activities (ADL). The impaired ADL is often referred as a measurement of disability which first affects the ability to perform complex activities progresses to perform basic ADL like dressing, toileting etc. In developing country like India, there is burden on clinician as the ratio between doctor and patient is differed so much that a clinician is unable to give much time to the patient. Previousy, the studies have assessed the correlation between MMSE and IADL however, they have not measure the in depth analysis between the subscales of MMSE like attention, orientation, language, memory, comprehension, visuospatial ability etc. and subscales of EASI like forgets to eat, toilet location etc. In this regard if we can correlate the subscores of Hindi Mental State Examination (HMSE) and Everyday Ability Scale for India (EASI) than we can predict the impairment in ADLs from the performance on neurocognitive tests. The present study purports to correlate the scores obtained on different cognitive domains with activities of daily living. The HMSE and EASI were administered on patient diagnosed with DAT. A multiple regression analysis yielded a significant correlation between the scores of HMSE and EASI. A separate beta regression analysis was done on each subscale of EASI and HMSE and the result showed that attention, comprehension and visuospatial constructional praxis were found to be the significant predictors of HMSE in predicting most of the subscales of ADLs. The deficit in neurocognitive performance could predict the impairment in activities of daily living (ADL) in patients with dementia of Alzheimer's type (DAT) at early course of the disease." @default.
