- W2982231036 abstract "This paper is directed, through a philosophical analysis, to an exploration of the implications of postmodernity for the future of competency-based approaches to continuing education and training. It argues that there are limited areas of compatibility between competency-based continuing education and postmodernity, the former being overwhelmingly modernist, tending towards orthodoxy, rationality and simplicity rather than heterodoxy, expressiveness and complexity. Competency-based education is seen to be largely in conflict with postmodernity, which it is argued is the future of Australian society.
