- W2983053753 abstract "With the largest area under cereal production in the Nile basin, agricultural water withdrawal constitutes 97% of the total water withdrawal in the Sudan. The construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in Ethiopia poses new opportunities and uncertainties on agricultural production in the Sudan. The impact of climate change increases this uncertainty. It has thus become essential to understand the impact of upstream water resources development works and climate change on hydrology of the Nile and develop water budget under various management scenarios. In the driest possible river flow situations where the release from GERD may get as low as 25 BCM (billion cubic meter), the available flow is about 38% more than without the dam 50% of the time. Under the RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenarios the total surface water volume could decrease by as much as 32% and 55% while sediment concentration could increase by 23% and 6%, respectively." @default.
