- W2984560690 abstract "Abstract Surface modification of titanium (Ti) is a hot topic to improve osseointegration. Specifically, the composite surface treatment could produce a synergistic effect on perfect osseointegration. In this study, tantalum (Ta) was deposited on the surface of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes by means of plasma spraying to form Ta/TiO2 nanotube composite coatings. This coating was assessed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), three-dimensional contour tests and contact angle measurements. The cytocompatibility was tested in vitro with mouse embryonic osteoblast precursor (MC3T3-E1) cells. The results revealed that the Ta coating was formed on the surface of TiO2 nanotubes and possessed good surface characteristics, including roughness and hydrophilicity. In addition, the Ta/TiO2 nanotube composite coating presented good adhesion, differentiation, mineralization and osteogenesis-related gene (BMP-2, Alp, OCN and OPN) expression in vitro. These results suggest that the Ta/TiO2 nanotube composite coatings can provide a favourable application for dental implants to enhance cytocompatibility." @default.
