- W2988759557 abstract "The description and understanding of head fractures are aided by a good working knowledge of the anatomy of the skull. This chapter should help the reader understand the basic anatomy of the skull. Fractures of the head, particularly of the mandible, are common in horses. Computed tomography (CT) is a very useful diagnostic procedure that is often indicated for the assessment of complicated head fractures. In the horse, CT has had the greatest impact in the management of diseases involving the head, particularly fractures. Frequently head fractures are much more dramatic on CT images than on radiographs or what one would expect after external inspection. In the majority of horses with skull fractures, treatment is successful and the prognosis is good. This applies not only to open fractures, but also to severely displaced fractures. The chapter deals with fractures of the facial skull, excluding fractures of the rostral part of the incisive bone." @default.
