The research project was undertaken by Ms. Surinder Kaur in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the Degree of Master of Science in Nursing, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, in 2016. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge and attitude among OPD patients regarding cerebrovascular accident and its prevention; to find out the relationship between the knowledge and attitude; to find out the relationship of knowledge and attitude with selected demographic variables; and to prepare pamphlets regarding cerebrovascular accident and its prevention. Methodology: The conceptual framework of study was based on Health Belief Model of Rosenstoch, Becker and Maiman (1974). A non-experimental research approach and exploratory research design were adopted. Non-probability convenient sampling was used and 100 OPD patients were selected. A self-structured knowledge questionnaire and five-point Likert scale were prepared to assess the knowledge and attitude among OPD patients regarding cerebrovascular accident and its prevention. Descriptive and inferential statistics was used to analyze the data. Bar diagrams were used to depict the findings. Results: The study findings show that 53 (53%) respondents had good knowledge, 5 (5%) had poor knowledge, and only 4 (4%) had excellent knowledge regarding cerebrovascular accident. Educational status and source of information had relationship with knowledge of respondents significant at p < 0.05. OPD patients had 60 (60%) positive attitude. Age (in years) and source of information had significant relationship with the attitude regarding cerebrovascular accident and its prevention at p < 0.05 level. There was a positive relationship (0.99) between knowledge and attitude on the basis of findings. Pamphlets were given to create awareness among OPD patients regarding cerebrovascular accident and its prevention. Recommendations: Based on the experience gained during the period of study and from the results of the study, the following recommendations were made that the study can be replicated on large sample to validate and generalize its findings: (1) A descriptive study can be conducted to assess the knowledge and attitude among B.Sc. Nursing students regarding cerebrovascular accident and its prevention in selected nursing colleges.(2) A quasi-experimental study can be conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching program regarding cerebrovascular accident among healthcare providers in selected hospital. Conclusion: The study concludes that OPD patients had good knowledge and positive attitude regarding cerebrovascular accident and its prevention. On the basis of findings, a pamphlet was prepared for OPD patients regarding cerebrovascular accident and its prevention." @default.
