- W2990222933 abstract "Background: Fever, recognized as one of the immune related adverse events, has been reported to be associated with the response of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). However, the association between fever and duration of treatment effect of ICIs is unclear. Aims and Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between ICI-induced fever and the efficacy of ICI in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of patients with NSCLC who received nivolumab therapy at our institute as the initial immune therapy. We assessed the exothermic events that occurred from the initial dose of nivolumab to the second dose or 3 weeks later, whichever was shorter. The efficacy of nivolumab was evaluated with progression free survival (PFS). Results: There were 92 patients with NSCLC who received nivolumab therapy. Nivolumab-induced fever was observed in 17 (18%) patients. The causes of fever were ICI in 12 (70%), infection in 4 (24%), and other in 1 (6%). Patients with nivolumab-induced fever had significantly shorter PFS than those without (median, 40 vs 123.5 days; 95% confidence intervals [CI], 14-162 vs 70-178 days; p=.009). On Cox proportional hazard analysis adjusted for comorbidity with emphysema, harboring any driver gene alterations, histology (squamous vs nonsquamous), and current use of corticosteroids, nivolumab-induced fever (odds ratio [OR], 2.20; 95% CI, 1.09-4.42; p=.027) and a score of European Cooperation Oncology Group Performance Status ≥ 2 (OR, 2.95; 95% CI, 1.67-5.22; p Conclusion: Nivolumab-induced fever may be negatively associated with the efficacy in NSCLC." @default.
