The results of the study will provide the basis for certification requirements for computer educators in Montana.The study utilized a modified Delphi Technique, a method for identifying opinions and, ultimately, developing group consensus. One hundred twenty-seven computer educators participated in three rounds of questionnaires. In the first round participants were asked to respond to a list of statements regarding computer related knowledge and attitudes. They were encouraged to modify, add to, or delete from the list. Those changes were made in the list which was then returned to the participants in round two. Participants were asked to indicate their opinion on the importance of each item using a scale from 1 (not important) to 4 (very important). Based on the results, a third questionnaire was prepared listing each statement and providing a percentage score calculated from the second round questionnaire. Each participant's previous responses from round two were circled in red on their own questionnaires. They reevaluated their choices, and if they disagreed with the group opinion, they were asked to give a written reason for doing so. Consensus was considered to have been met on 51 out of 53 statements.Demographic data for each participant as well as participant responses was collected. Data was analyzed through application of Leik's Measure of Ordinal Consensus.The analyses of data provided the following conclusions: The modified Delphi Technique was useful in developing and improving group consensus through three rounds of questionnaires; there was agreement among Montana computer educators concerning required and optional topics for computer literacy and computer science that should be available for secondary students; and there was agreement concerning the topics that should be considered strictly computer science topics." @default.
