- W2996827777 abstract "Introduction: Precise estimated standard liver volume (ESLV) measurements are crucial for preventing small-for-size syndrome after living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) and major hepatectomy. Formulas calculating ESLV without body weight were developed to minimize malnutrition, ascites, and tissue oedema effects among patients with liver disease. However, those results were unsatisfactory. In this retrospective review of prospective donor candidate data, we propose a more precise formula for calculating ESLV by utilizing three anthropometric parameters from different dimensions, without reference to body weight. Method: Prospective data of 378 patients (202 men, 176 women)that underwent computed tomography (CT) scans for total liver volume (TLV) at two medical centres in Taiwan were retrospectively reviewed. Data from one institution were used to derive the new formula (training group). The predictive power of the new formula was compared with other ESLV formulas in the literature by employing data from the other institution (validation group). Result: In the training group, a new ESLV formula, 30.4x (thoracic width) (cm) + 40.2x (anteroposterior diameter) (cm) + 5.7x (body height) (cm) – 1178.7, was derived from three anthropometric parameters in different dimensions. In the validation group, when compared with formulas comprising body weight-associated factors and other anthropometric parameters, the new formula showed greater correlation with TLV (R2=0.509; root of mean predicted residual sum of squares: 168.5). Conclusion: The new formula, including thoracic width, anteroposterior diameter, and height, without reference to weight, is easy to use and can predict ESLV more accurately than other formulas." @default.
