- W2997331176 abstract "This chapter considers the requirements and essentials of hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) in relation to halal. Potential hazards may arise from taking non-halal processing steps or from the use, or suspected use, of haram or non-tayyib (unwholesome) ingredients in the preparation of halal foods. The chapter demonstrates that HACCP is compatible with the religious requirements of Shariah law. Muslims are under a duty only to consume food, pharmaceuticals, nutrients, and cosmetic products that are halal and tayyib (wholesome). Halal characteristics complement the HACCP system, so providing an additional layer of protection for consumers. Together they provide a complete system for analysing any food operation to identify potential hazards within the three traditional categories: microbial, chemical, and physical. By introducing a fourth, religious element to the microbial, chemical, or physical elements found in secular HACCP, an additional layer of regulation and protection is afforded for those wishing to consume halal food and products." @default.
