- W2998656375 abstract "A subject of interest of this study is “The osmosis – a method of teaching students in a Bulgarian language preparatory course, Medical University, Plovdiv”. This topic is taught in Physics and Chemistry Preparatory classes, Medical University, Plovdiv, as well as in biophysics and bioorganic chemistry classes during the first year, specialty Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy. This topic is a subject of attention for physicists, chemists and biochemists and gives opportunities for multidisciplinary approach in teaching. Practice has proved that in such mixed topics the students’ interest increases. They have opportunities to show their knowledge in other classes and to enrich their knowledge in Chemistry, Physics and Biophysics classes. In the present article, we view methods used in our work in the preparatory course when the lexical vocabulary of students is rather small. We put the frame in which the material is taught and the role of the Chemistry and Physics teachers in the preparatory course and Biology teachers in the first year of studying at Plovdiv Medical University. We give ideas for preliminary individual work of students on the topic: the meaning of osmosis, theoretical understanding, laws, application. Students can prepare their own presentations, which they can present to their colleagues.Because of the importance of the topic “Osmosis”, we have left opportunities for work for more active students and for those who want to do experimental work. They can be included in a group in the Department of Physics and Biophysics. For students with wider interests in the topic we have included some cases from the medical practice. It was found that even in this preparatory period of studying when students have poor vocabulary in the language, they understand and reproduce the topic.Widely used illustrative material helps the understanding of the information. The Power point presentation of the authors gives opportunity for immediate usage in the process of studying in the preparatory course. In conclusion, we can say that the application of this multidisciplinary approach, increased the students ’interest. This led to better understanding of the material and higher grades too. We have created conditions for expansion of the material taught and for ideas for applying it in medical cases." @default.
