- W2999647987 abstract "Based on conservation of resources theory, we propose that mistreatment from patients can affect nurses’ career withdrawal intention through job burnout. We further suggest that these effects are contingent upon political skill. A study of 277 nurses from three hospitals located in China revealed a positive relationship between mistreatment from patients and nurses’ career withdrawal intention. Job burnout mediated the relationship between mistreatment from patients and nurses’ career withdrawal intention. The results also showed that the relationship between mistreatment from patients and job burnout was negatively moderated by political skill. Nurses with higher‐level political skills were less likely to suffer from job burnout after being mistreated. This study enriches the research on mistreatment and career withdrawal intention and provides practical implications for hospital managers." @default.
