- W2999867653 abstract "In an area of disasters, e.g. an earthquake or a hurricane hit area, most of infrastructures are damaged or unusable. Buildings could be collapsed and victims can be trapped under the structures. It is a very critical task for rescuers to be in the area and find out who is alive. Most people have smartphones for everyday usage nowadays. A smartphone can save a life if it can send emergency signal to others. In this work, a model for victim-rescuer communications is proposed to use smartphones and Node MCUs ESP8266 as a backbone network with a fast deployment. From the proposed model, three scenarios are implemented and tested with 3 performance metrics, i.e. packet delivery ratio, time spent, and battery usage. A smartphone sends data every 5, 10 or 15 minutes. From all scenarios, all smartphone data can be reached a master node at different time depending on the duration settings. Within 1 hour of sending data, the average battery usage in smartphones is ranging from 3.1% to 7.1%." @default.
