- W3000252017 abstract "As a type of porous and fragile material, volcanic cinder gravels have shown low intensity and density, and demonstrate obvious breakage characteristic under the impact of external force. Current research only consider whether the filler gradation satisfies the requirements but do not consider the impacts of breakage on the subgrade filling. Here we adopt the volcanic cinder gravels in Kenya as the research subject and carries out the feasibility experimental research on the application in the surface subgrade layer of Nairobi-Malabar Railway. Firstly, particle size analysis and density experiment are conducted on the volcanic cinder gravels, and the volume percentage method is proposed to calculate the filler gradation parameters of volcanic cinder gravels; then, based on single-particle breakage test, the correlation among particle size, porosity, and intensity is obtained; next, the change trend of particle size of mixed fillers and the impacts of particle breakage on the gradation are analyzed under different compaction times through cyclic compaction test. The experiment result indicates that the volcanic cinder gravels are characteristic of high porosity and low particle density. Besides, particles mixed by volcanic cinder gravels and clay are fragmented under the impact of dynamic loading. After breakage, the engineering properties of the stabilized mixed material still satisfy the regulatory requirements after particle breakage, thus, the material can be applied as the surface layer filler of railway subgrade." @default.
