- W3000492938 abstract "ABSTRACTConsidering the peculiarities to which police work occurs, the present study sought to investigate how PMMA officers evaluate their Quality of Working Life - QWL. It was also proposed to analyze the main factors that function as motivators for the performance of their functions, to identify the factors that have a relation with the demotivation in the work environment and to investigate the perception that the police officers have on the working conditions which they are submitted to. The sample consisted of 8 police officers from the 8th Police Battalion of Maranhao, both operational and administrative service. For analysis of interview data, the content analysis methodology was used. This method sought, in the interviewees' speech, the understanding of the context they are inserted at, along with the senses there verbalized. In addition to the field research, a bibliographical research was performed aiming to make an interlocution of studies already carried out, as well as to interact with theories that involve the main theme. It was found, from the intervied' speeches, that they are clear about the general meaning of QWL and how the presence or absence of several factors are able to influence positively or negatively the QWL of each. It was identified that physical activity, moments of leisure with family and friends, travel, voluntary service and religious practice are factors that provide quality of life. The factors reported by police officers of the operational service as motivators to enter the PMMA were: influence of family and friends as well as identification with this profession and, mainly, remuneration aiming financial stability. It was pointed out that the most motivational factors are the sense of accomplishment, the dynamic that does not allow the service to be repetitive, the recognition of the population and co-workers. Others emphasize that the motivation is internal. Those who work in the administration emphasized the pleasant environment, the physical structure and the interpersonal relationships. Unmotivating factors were reported, such as: impunity, working conditions, rigid militarism, lack of opportunity to express ideas, risk of death, internal and external charging to solve crimes and compensation.
