- W3000623204 abstract "Objective: Cardio renal syndrome (CRS) is very common among hemodialysis patients. Anemia is frequently founded in patients with chronic kidney disease and chronic heart failure. It is also an important risk factor for both cardiac and renal dysfunctions. The aim of the study is to evaluate, if there is a relationship between CRS and Anemia. Design and method: One hundred twenty three hemodialysis patients of University Hospital Center were enrolled in the study: 74 (60.2 %) patients were males and 49 (38.9%) patients were females. The mean age was 52.63 ± 12.8 years, and the dialysis vintage (length of time on hemodialysis) 3.7 ± 2.3 years. The CRS was defined in according to consensus conference of the Acute Dialysis Quality Initiative. All the patients were under Erythropoietin (EPO) treatment. Anemia was defined as a Hemoglobin level < 11 mg/dl. Results: The prevalence of CRS was 82.1% (101 patients). According to type of CRS we found; type 2 of CRS 0.8% (1 patient), type 3 of CRS 15.4% (19 patients), type 4 of CRS 63.4% (78 patients), type 5 of CRS 2.4% (3 patients). Male patients were 60 (48.8%) vs. females patients 41 (33.3%) (p = 0.71). The mean age of CRS patients was 44.06 ± 15.21 years, comparing with non CRS patients 54.97 ± 11.2 years (p < 0.001). The dialysis vintage for CRS patients was 4.67 ± 2.47 years and for non CRS patients was 3.5 ± 2.33 years (p = 0.09). The prevalence of Anemia in the total cohort was found in 62 (59.6%) patients. Between CRS patients was found in 55(52.9%) vs. 7 (6.7%) between non CRS patients. This difference was statistically significant p = 0.006. Conclusions: The under study population showed that, there was a significant relationship between CRS and Anemia. Recognizing better the connection between them, will help us to improve new therapeutic perspective of management, for these patients." @default.
