• W3000669669 abstract "The refinement mechanism of primary M7C3 (P-M) carbides in hypereutectic high chromium cast iron (HHCCI) with a composition of Fe–25Cr-3.7C was studied by XRD, SEM, TEM and theoretical calculation. The size of P-M was refined from 76 μm to 40 μm through the addition of 1.54 wt% Nb. And the formation of (Nb, Ti) C composed carbide refined P-M to 22 μm by adding 1.19 wt% Nb and 0.31 wt% Ti simultaneously. Surprisingly, the formation of TiC–NbC core-shell carbide provided P-M with significant refinement to a size of 11 μm by adding 0.29 wt% Ti first and 1.22 wt% Nb second. TiC–NbC is smaller and more dispersive than (Nb, Ti) C, which was explained by SEM, EPMA. From the calculation of lattice constant (TOPAS solution of XRD and TEM) and Bramfitt two-dimensional lattice misfit degree theory, the lattice misfit between (110) plane of (Nb, Ti) C and (001) plane of M7C3 reaches 6.5% (>6%), indicating that the (Nb, Ti) C has a moderate nucleation effect on P-M. While the lattice misfit between (110) plane of TiC–NbC and (001) plane of M7C3 is only 5.7% (<6%), showing an excellent effect. The optimal refinement effect of TiC–NbC on P-M can be attributed to two aspects. Firstly, the segregation of Ti element in the center of TiC–NbC ensures full play of refinement effect on P-M. Secondly, TiC–NbC has size and dispersion advantages for its lower precipitation kinetics and coarsening rate." @default.
