- W3000884087 abstract "Abstract Self-healing function is one of the most basic characteristics of nature and self-healing materials are considered as a widely recognized research field in the 21st century. In recent years, self-healing concept has been introduced into the field of pavement materials. Inspired by the skin microvascular function, hollow fiber-containing rejuvenator is a promising smart material for vascular self-healing bituminous materials. The hollow fiber-based approach may be more appropriate for self-healing impact damage of polymer composite materials. A network of hollow channels known as biomimetic vascular, similar to the blood vessels within human tissue, is placed within the structure and used for the introduction of a healing agent. The aim of this work was to prepare a novel self-healing hollow fiber containing oily rejuvenator for aged bitumen. The hollow fibers containing oily rejuvenator were fabricated with pores by a one-step wet-spinning method using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin. Because of the existence of porous microstructure in fibers, the rejuvenator had the permeability out of fibers based on two forces. One was the lipophilicity of PVDF fibers, and another was the oily chemicals concentration gradient difference between the rejuvenator and the aged bitumen. The physicochemical characteristics of the hollow fibers were investigated. Diffusion behaviors measurements showed that the diffusion coefficient greatly depended on the pore structure and temperature. The self-healing capability of bitumen was evaluated by using a direct tension method. All these results implied that the existence of both self-nourishing and self-healing has been successfully proved in aged bitumen using hollow fibers containing oily rejuvenator. It will be a novel smart material and ideal to recover the aged bitumen for future pavements." @default.
