- W3001200699 abstract "Abstract This phylum Platyhelminthes, the diverse group of acoelomate worms, includes the flat worms: free-living, commensalisms (symbiosis), and a few of the ectoparasites in class Turbellaria; endoparasites as flukes forming class Trematoda; and tapeworms forming class Cestoda. The turbellarins, in turn, are divided into orders: Acoela, Rhabdocoela, Alloeocoela, Tricladida, Polycladida, and Temnocephala. Recently, Acoela constitutes its own clade ‘Acoela’, in which there are approximately 370 species ( Bourlat and Hejnol, 2009 ). Both Acoela and polycladida produce simple eggs in which yolk granules distribute within the cytoplasm. They cleave with spiral cleavage characterized the annelids and gastropods. Acoels are distinguished by the duet spiral cleavage and they hatch as miniature worms, without an intervening larval stage (i.e. no free swimming stage). The simple eggs of Polycladida develop directly in Notoplana, or indirectly through different swimming larvae: Muller’s larva in Planocera and Gottes larva in Stylochus. The simple eggs are archoophoran eggs (in which there are no yolk glands and the eggs contain yolk distributed in the cytoplasm). Tricladida and some of Rhabdocoela and Alloeocoela develop yolk glands and form composite eggs (Neoophora). Some rhabdocoels (e.g. Mesostoma) lay two types of eggs: small summer eggs with thin shells; and large, thick-shelled winter eggs (called dauerei, latent). Mesostoma ehrenbergi hatch in the spring from winter eggs and form summer eggs before the copulatory organs are fully developed. They are self-fertilized and hatch, then grow to maturity within the parental body, finally rupturing it to merge. More comparative data pertaining to morphogenesis and organogenesis in flatworms were obtained from embryonic development of a new dalyellid species, Gieysztoria superba. The study of Girardia tigrina (de Vara et al., 2008) presents new data concerning embryological development of a composite egg of Cladida." @default.
