- W3003770132 abstract "Abstract The frequency of extreme events such as high temperature, drought, and flooding is predicted to increase under future climate conditions. Heat stress is one of the major abiotic factors restricting plant growth and productivity, particularly when it occurs during reproductive stages. Temperate cereal crops such as wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) are very sensitive to high temperature stress during grain filling. Priming, the preexposure of plants to an eliciting factor enhances plants tolerance to later biotic or abiotic stress events. Priming induced intra-generational and intergenerational “stress memory” could be exploited as a potential management strategy on crop plants to cope with the abiotic stresses under global climate change scenarios. In this chapter, we review the current literature with effects of heat priming on plant tolerance to heat stress within generation or transgeneration, aiming to elucidate the underlying physiological and molecular mechanisms associated with priming induced heat tolerance, with emphasis on wheat plants." @default.
