- W3004183012 abstract "Men in the Middle East have poor access to treatment for sexual dysfunctions, low treatment engagement, and low treatment completion rates despite the burden such dysfunctions have on the quality of life. This chapter examines Middle East male patients’ perspectives regarding sexual problems, treatment-seeking behaviors, and the structural, sociocultural, and individual factors that may influence initiation and continued engagement in treatment. This chapter also highlights the apparent lack of congruency between available treatment and communication, and cultural and gender norms of Middle East populations that may inhibit treatment seeking. Strategies for treatment should consider the sociocultural factors that influence treatment-seeking and engagement behaviors necessary for successful outcomes. Furthermore, increased awareness of sexual problems is needed within targeted populations in the Middle East community. Specifically, the detrimental effects of sexual problems on quality of life and the potential benefits of treatment should be more widely communicated in order to diminish the social disgrace associated with sexual problems and their treatment." @default.
