Stone columns are very effective for flexible structures where a relatively large settlement is permissible. Stone columns are columnar structures constructed with granular materials below the ground surface. Since the materials involved are stones, it is a well and truly sustainable soil strengthening method and also the installation is easy and economical. The performance of stone column was affected by various parameters. Column configuration is referred as—increasing the number of stone columns with smaller diameter by keeping the same area replacement ratio (stone column area to the unit cell area ratio) as that of single stone column with same depth. The effect of column configuration on the performance of stone column supported ground was evaluated in this paper by full 3D numerical analyses." @default.
