- W3004947281 abstract "According to the United Nations World Urbanization Prospects 2018, almost 60% of the total population is predicted to live in urban areas by 2030. This uncontrolled urbanization together with uncontrolled population growth ultimately results in the spreading of cities to the peripheries. Urban sprawl, which can be defined as the uncontrolled, unplanned, unauthorized, and uncoordinated growth of urban areas away from the city center is considered to be complicated since it leads to the deterioration of urban life quality by escalating environmental damage, various kinds of pollution, rise in traffic, congestion, environmental degradation and urban blight. It is considered to be a complicated phenomenon and pose most potential threats to sustainable development and smart growth of a region. It is a cumbersome task to restrict urban sprawl within the safe limits to attain urban sustainability. The latest Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can be used as an efficient tool to regenerate the disorganized urban areas in an effective way. The increased use of ICT will lead to an acceleration of people relocating from urban centers to urban peripheries eventually. In most cities, life at the city center is made miserable primarily due to traffic congestion, environmental pollution and lack of land space/area. With ICT-supported technologies, people need not travel to city center anymore because they are able to do things sitting at home. The ICT component enabled planning offers cities with better value of life for its residents while being more justifiable and cost-effective. This is an explanatory study suggesting use of ICT in taming urban sprawl for urban regeneration." @default.
