- W3005196679 abstract "Microplastics are widely dispersed in the coastal and marine environment, and sediments are considered to be sinks for microplastics. In this study, a total of 53 sediment samples were removed from different depths of two sediment cores collected in Andong salt marsh, Hangzhou Bay. The microplastics were extracted from the sediment cores through a density floating separation method. The shape, size, and color of the microplastics was then observed under a microscope. Polymer types were identified using micro-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The average abundance of microplastics was 13.2 ± 6.0 items 50 g−1 dry weight. The main components of microplastics were polystyrene, cellophane, polyethylene and polypropylene. The quantities of microplastics at different depths in the sediment cores were consistent with the history of microplastic pollution." @default.
