- W3005429168 abstract "In this paper we present a methodology to compare DC-AC or AC-DC power conversion topologies by calculating their indirect power $(mathbf{P}_{mathbf{ind}})$ . It is shown that $mathbf{P}_{mathbf{ind}}$ impacts on volume and losses of passive components, therefore by comparing this factor, high-level comparison of various circuits can be made. DC-AC or AC-DC topologies are modeled as quasi-static DC-DC converters at each working point along the line cycle, and continuous power models are used as the basic tool. Since this modeling methodology is bi-directional, in this paper only the DC-AC inverting is discussed as example. Several DC-AC inverter topologies such as: conventional 1-phase half/full bridge and the interconnected modular multi-level converter (IMMC) are examined from the perspective of $mathbf{P}_{mathbf{ind}}$ . While each type of DC-AC inverter topology has found its place in applications, the proposed analysis draws attention to the fact that certain inverter configuration process nearly twice the amount of power in passive components. With the emergence of wide band gap devices and their availability in higher power ranges, an examination of indirect power processed by passive components to accomplish the DC-AC or AC-DC topologies can open new doors for further optimization and topology selection to suite particular applications." @default.
