- W3006389626 abstract "This paper investigates a recent approach for power system stability enhancement by static var compensator (SVC) based damping controller which results in very good stability performance for reduction of maintenance cost in the power system plants. Static var compensator (SVC) is frequently used in power system to achieve many purposes like voltage control and oscillations damping. It is a shunt type of flexible AC transmission line system (FACTS) devices. The design and analysis problem of the suggested controller is formulated as an optimization problem, and ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO) is used in searching for best controller parameters. The performance of the proposed controller is evaluated when various disturbances are subjected to the multi-machine power plant (two-area system) as a case study. In order to show the robustness and effectiveness of the suggested approach the performance via ACO based SVC has been compared with the fuzzy logic concept (FL) when the impulse response is taken as an input signal to the system. The simulation results show that the optimal performance occurs when the ACO algorithm is used. It is shown that the results are acceptable for certain limitation conditions related to voltage ampere reactive power (VAR)." @default.
