- W3007456566 abstract "The current study focuses on the sustainable development of tourism in Uttarakhand state of India by understanding climate change and its impact on the local environment with relevance to both livelihood and tourism. This research communication also brings forth the change in the current situation of livelihood and related youth migration observed in the Uttarakhand state of India due to sinking tourism. One of the fastest and biggest growing sectors today is tourism which has also been noted as the fastest growing industry with significant environmental, cultural, social, and economic effects. With changing trend of the environment due to climate change impact, added vulnerabilities, more human interferences, and time and again occurring natural hazards, there has been a sharp decline in tourism in a few regions of Uttarakhand state. This has largely affected the younger people who have relied on tourism related livelihood options like boating, water sports, paragliding, and other aquatic sports activities for their daily earnings. Another relevant change observed in the last decade as per the survey and interview done is the migration of youth population to nearby state, especially New Delhi for better growth opportunities. Sustainable tourism is one of the major concerns of achieving sustainable development in Uttarakhand state. This primary aim of tourism development requires an understanding of climate change and its impact on environment and has a properly focused strategy for remediation of land or other alternatives for nullifying the impact. One of the major objectives is to investigate the status of the current issue and suggest a necessary plan for sustainable tourism development. It also focuses on the formation of active social groups for knowledge dissemination in masses about climate change trend. This study was done in the prime rural base of Uttarakhand state with tourism-prone location where previously rural residents and youth were mostly depending on tourism options for their livelihood. As a methodology, a field-based systematic survey was carried out based on the general questionnaire in the selected tourism destinations to find out the ongoing problems and issues. This research focuses on integrated approach and establishment/suggestions of new plans for coping with the changing climate impact for sustainable development of tourism in Uttarakhand. This would be of help to related government agencies and the statistics department of population control for their policy-making to cater to the shortfall of the lower number of youth availability in the village. The study concludes to synthesize all the findings and further gives feasible suggestions and recommendations for the development of tourism in this region." @default.
