- W3010076505 abstract "Inorganic content in wastewater stream consists of potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, sulfate, chloride, nitrate, etc. Among these inorganic contaminants, nitrogenous contaminants such as nitrate (NO3−) along with nitrite (NO2−) and ammonium ion (NH4+) have maximum level of concentration. Owing to high release of industrial inorganic nitrogen especially in water bodies, the disproportion of the natural nitrogen cycle happens. Efficient management of nitrogen cycle in water bodies during the 21st century is a grand challenge. The main aim during treatment of inorganic nitrogen present in wastewater is to reduce it into N2 gas as final product. Several advance methods such as electrochemical (EC) treatment, advanced catalysis treatment, and photocatalysis processes have been reported, which degrade the inorganic nitrate present in wastewater. EC treatment process is very much capable of reducing inorganic nitrate into N2 gas without producing secondary pollutants and with no sludge production. Several noble metal- and graphene-based catalysts, electro-catalysts and photocatalysts have been reported, which hybridize the reduction process as well as enhance the removal of nitrate and other inorganic nitrogen pollutants. Nanoscale-coated electrodes such as Ti/TiO2 nanotube array, nano-Ti coated, and zerovalent iron reduce the nitrate into N2. This chapter reports advancement in the reduction process of inorganic nitrate into N2 gas." @default.
