- W3010901753 abstract "This study was carried out to assess the in vitro antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic effects of Nauclea latifolia (Sm.) leaf extracts. Ethanolic (NLE) and aqueous (NLA) extract of N. latifolia leaves were prepared and assessed for their anti-inflammatory activity, antioxidant potential, α -amylase and α -glucosidase inhibitory activities, and the mechanism of enzyme inhibition in vitro using standard established methods. From the results, phytochemicals such as flavonoids, phenolics, glycosides, and tannins were detected in both extracts of N. latifolia with NLE having a significantly (<mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M1><mml:mi>p</mml:mi><mml:mo><</mml:mo><mml:mn>0.05</mml:mn></mml:math>) higher phytochemical content. NLE displayed significantly (<mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M2><mml:mi>p</mml:mi><mml:mo><</mml:mo><mml:mn>0.05</mml:mn></mml:math>) better total antioxidant capacity, reducing power, 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl, and hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging activities. For anti-inflammatory activities, <mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M3><mml:mn>70.54</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>2.45</mml:mn><mml:mi>%</mml:mi></mml:math> albumin denaturation inhibition was observed for NLE while <mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M4><mml:mn>68.05</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>1.03</mml:mn><mml:mi>%</mml:mi></mml:math> was recorded for NLA. Likewise, <mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M5><mml:mn>16.07</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>1.60</mml:mn></mml:math> and <mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M6><mml:mn>14.08</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>1.76</mml:mn><mml:mi>%</mml:mi></mml:math> were obtained against hypotonic solution and heat-induced erythrocyte haemolysis, respectively, for NLE while <mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M7><mml:mn>20.59</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>4.60</mml:mn></mml:math> and <mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M8><mml:mn>24.07</mml:mn><mml:mo>±</mml:mo><mml:mn>1.60</mml:mn><mml:mi>%</mml:mi></mml:math> were respective NLA values. The obtained result suggests N. latifolia leaf could serve as an alternative candidate for managing diabetes mellitus due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory association with diabetes-linked enzymes." @default.
