- W3013250348 abstract "This research focuses on the musicians’ Twitter posts, which contain promotion, with also include emoji and text. This research is in a form of a descriptive qualitative which uses the multimodality theory through the generalized image-text relation of Radan Martinec and Andrew Salway. Using generalized image-text relation, the status relation and the way the text and emoji interact can be understood. Therefore, this research can explain: (1) the pattern of the musicians’ emoji usage along with the text message in doing promotion in Twitter, (2) the difference(s) of the combination of emoji and text in Twitter promotion posts carried out by the musicians, (3) the reasons the musicians have such combination of emoji and text in doing promotion through Twitter posts. This research finds that the musicians tend to position the emoji subordinately to text. In terms of logico-semantic relation, the extension relation occurs more than the exemplification relation and enhancement relation. The emoji mostly provides additional information, which cannot be transferred with the text, such as expression and feeling, and to provide symbolization of the event they promote in the post, such as ticket emoji. There are also different patterns of combination between religious musicians and rock musicians. The religious musicians tend to use emoji to provide information about themselves, such as feeling and expression. While, the rock musicians use the emoji more to put information about the event, such as the place and the days left to the beginning of the event. However, the musicians form both genre position text as the main element of the message. This is because the text can deliver specific message better than emoji (Kress, 2010). On the other hand, emoji also put an important role on providing information about expression and tone, and adds joy element on the message (Burge, 2017)." @default.
