- W3013870018 abstract "Underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC) offers the prospect of higher bandwidths and data rates for underwater communications but such systems typically suffer from severe absorption and scattering. There is also the possibility of obstruction by objects present in the transmission path. Here we consider the characteristics of a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) UOWC link with multiple scattering based on Monte Carlo simulation. To determine the impulse response of the channel, different models of the phase scattering from underwater propagation are considered. These are used to obtain temporal dispersion results for NLOS UOWC links in coastal and harbor water environments. Curve fitting using the analytical models shows correlation coefficients of between 0.98 and 0.99, demonstrating the utility of the models employed. The results lay the foundations for future work on elements such as link bit error rates." @default.
