- W3014121123 abstract "Recently, research trends focus on enhancing and improving the functionality of fibrous materials. In order to meet the market demand, the development of fibrous materials is rapid with advanced applications such as electronic textiles, medical textiles, and self-cleaning textiles. Electronic textiles can refer to a textile substrate with electrical functioning similar to electronics, which physically functions as a textile product. Functional electronic textiles should be lightweight, should be comfortable to wear, and should have easy care properties. Medical textiles usually have antimicrobial properties that inhibit the growth of microorganisms and can minimize a range of undesirable effects not only on the textile itself but also on the wearer. These effects include unpleasant odors, color degradation, allergic responses, deterioration of the textiles, and even potential health risks. Self-cleaning textile material is water, oil, and soil repellent. The superhydrophobicity is achieved by chemical and geometrical modification of the surface. By creating micro- and nanoscale roughness accompanied by a hydrophobic coating, water, and dirt on the surface can be removed easily, thus keeping the surface clean. These three advanced applications mentioned above suggest that nowadays more sophisticated treatment are being used to achieve these advanced features. This chapter will describe the chemical finishing applied for these advanced applications with the discussion of the chemical characterization methods including Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray fluorescence, chromatographic methods, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). Apart from that, the performance of the treated samples and their applications are also described." @default.
