- W3016334064 abstract "Poly (lactic acid)/gelatin foams with porous structures have been prepared by thermally impacted non-solvent induced phase separation. Gelatin, being hydrophilic and biocompatible but non-foamable independently, has been employed as an additive to generate porous patterning in a mechanically stable poly (lactic acid) matrix. The amount of gelatin has been found to influence the crystallinity, which in turn affected the degradation rate of the foams. The presence of gelatin and the porosity within the matrix, generated in situ, have been found to facilitate the controlled release of a hydrophilic drug (metformin hydrochloride). The gelatin modified matrix has also been observed to possess a high degree of biodegradability and cell-viability which makes it ideal for different biomedical applications." @default.
