- W3017432027 abstract "Abstract This study was to evaluate the net uptake of Na+ by the banana 'Prata Ana Gorutuba’ clone grown under salt stress and how this uptaked Na+ is distributed to different parts of the plant. Seedlings were planted in pots with a capacity of 12 L and the treatments were equivalent to 0, 30, and 60 mM NaCl, distributed in an experimental randomized block design with six replicates. Application of 60 mM NaCl reduced root, stem, and leaf dry masses by, respectively, 53.2 %, 42.6 %, and 32.8 %. Salinity also reduced transpiration rate by 44.4 %. Salinity did not influences amount of Na uptaked. For both salinity conditions (0 and 60 mM), the highest Na+ concentrations were observed in roots, followed by the stem and leaves. The results indicates that 'Prata Ana Gorutuba' clone uptakes little Na+ from the soil solution and prevents its accumulation in the leaves, two characteristics related to salinity tolerance and that can be used in breeding program to generate tolerant varieties to salt stress." @default.
