- W3020689545 abstract "In this paper, we have studied the propagation of acoustic waves in a 1D finite periodic structure formed by open resonators with a defect located in the centre of the structure. The theoretical analysis is based on the Transfer Matrix Method (TMM) and Sylvester's Theorem. This kind of resonator is generally used to reduce noise. The objective of our work is to study the effect of the defects’ presence in this periodic structure by calculating the transmission rate as a function of the frequency at normal incidence. Three kinds of defects are studied: the first is waveguide without a branched resonator, the second is an opened resonator with a great height and the third is a closed resonator of the same height as the opened one. We have found that the defect presence in the middle of the periodic structure leads to the creation of defect modes which are called resonant transmission peaks in the acoustic band gap. The position and frequency of this defect peak in the band gap are well controlled through modifying the defect dimensions. To our knowledge, this study is original in the field of acoustic wave propagation. The results obtained can be used in the design of new types of high-quality narrow-band selective transmission filters. We note that in the absence of mean flow, the plane wave theory is applied and the effects of higher-order modes, temperature gradients and viscous effects are excluded from this analytical procedure." @default.
