- W3020949703 abstract "Herbicides and fungicides are the most widely and commonly used pesticides worldwide. Therefore, there is a likelihood of higher risk of exposure to these hazardous chemicals that may lead to adverse effects on health. In order to assess the risks associated with the use of these chemicals, the expansion of knowledge at the molecular and cellular level has provided a myriad of new endpoints to toxicological evaluations utilizing in vitro and in vivo animal models for better characterization of hazard potential. This includes an array of new molecular biomarkers that have received substantial attention. Although there are a number of matrices that can be used for biomonitoring, the use of urine has an advantage because of ease of availability. As such, urine has been used for biomonitoring of a number of pesticides such as 2,4-D, 2,4,5-T, MCPA, atrazine, diuron, alachlor, metolachlor, paraquat, diquat, imazapyr, imazapic, imazethapyr, imazamox, imazaquin and imazamethabenz-methyl (herbicides), cyprodinil, captan, folpet and chlorothalonil (fungicides). The data obtained on these chemicals is useful for a variety of applications from risk assessment to exposure assessment. However, we must strive to fill several existing data gaps so that we can better interpret the data we generate." @default.
