- W3021570887 abstract "This chapter introduces micro-strip techniques and explains how to implement zero-cost components by drawing printed circuit board (PCB) tracks. The way to control the characteristic impedance of a micro-strip track has been illustrated. The wavelength should be far longer than the PCB dimensions because if a track that starts to be close to the wavelength that one is working on, then care better be taken and tracks with the width for proper impedance matching and with a full ground plane on the opposite layer should be used. The only exception is when the length of the track is short compared with the signal's wavelength (e.g., a couple of millimeters long). In that case, impedance matching may be neglected. Designing a PCB for a high-frequency project and working on transmission lines, as well as distributed components like building a zero-cost filter using standard components, designing capacitors, simulating the filter design, and sketching the layout windows that are the graphical representations of the filter design are illustrated with some funny experiments. Finally, the first odd behavior is measured and the actual performance is found to be extremely close to the simulation. Another aspect of micro-strip circuits is also checked with the test PCB. Textbooks explain that a 90° turn on a micro-strip track must have a precisely calculated chamfered corner to keep the impedance under control. It was tested with the same test setup and an impressive difference between the two versions was observed." @default.
