- W3021599272 abstract "This chapter discusses the various transmission modulation techniques that could be employed in the modem, taking into consideration the specific features of the conveyances. In amplitude modulation, the amplitude of the carrier signal is varied according to the amount of information transmitted. The resultant wave is a direct relation to the modulation wave, producing two identical symmetrical sidebands around the carrier. As the same information is contained in the two sidebands, in effect only one sideband is required to transmit a message; nevertheless, in most systems both sidebands are transmitted. In frequency modulation, the frequency of the carrier signal is changed according to the information transmitted. The chapter also discusses the phase modulation, in which the phase of the carrier signal is changed according to the data transmitted. Phase modulation is primarily used for digital transmission and is not generally intended for voice transmission or for telemetry analog information." @default.
