- W3021723104 abstract "In recent years, the scientific and clinical communities have increasingly recognized the potential for certain behaviors and to become dysregulated, compulsive, and addictive in nature. Along these lines, the forthcoming 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) includes diagnoses for Gambling Disorder, Gaming Disorder, and Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder. As reviewed elsewhere in this volume (Chapter 7: Spirituality, Religion and Substance Use Disorders), spirituality and religion (S/R) are known correlates of addiction in various forms. The current chapter reviews ways in which S/R relates to the experience and expression of behavioral addictions. Recent literature regarding the general nature and etiology of various behavioral addictions is reviewed, as is recent literature examining specifically how S/R correspond to these addictions, and these bodies of study are synthesized into a clinically-relevant model. Future directions for clinical innovation and research in this area are discussed." @default.
