- W3022748992 abstract "Abstract Toxic wastewater when consumed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin could prove to be fatal. The toxicity of the wastewater depends on the composition of the notable toxic organic and inorganic chemicals that are present in it. The treatment of wastewater using conventional methods was developed in and has been in use since the last century. However, due to the inefficiency in the conventional methods as well as in order to confront the rising problems in treating toxic wastewater, improved treatment strategies are required. This would be extremely helpful for the reuse or release of treated wastewater into the environment. This chapter discusses the different toxic wastewater treatment strategies that are used globally, viz., physical, chemical, biological, and hybrid systems. The role of contemporary biological methods that involve microalgae, vermiculture, and aquatic plants in treating toxic wastewater is also elucidated. Recent examples of research in treating toxic wastewater are also described." @default.
